Nebraska AG Says No Pay Raises for Lawmakers

Nebraska lawmakers don’t want a pay raise because of budget problems, and Attorney General Jon Bruning’s office agrees they shouldn’t get a chance at one this year.

A legal opinion issued by his office on Thursday says the Legislature overstepped the Nebraska Constitution when, in 2007, it voted to wait until this year to ask voters for a $10,000 pay raise.

Bruning’s office says the proposed constitutional amendment for the raise could have been given to voters for consideration before or at the next general election, in 2008.

Nebraska: Former Attorney General to run for Treasurer

Former Nebraska Attorney General Don Stenberg is set to announce his candidacy for the office of state treasurer.

Stenberg, a Republican, has released a schedule to tour the state beginning Monday in Omaha and to announce the launch of his campaign.

He seeks to replace Shane Osborn, who has said he won’t seek re-election.

Nebraska AG Running for Re-election

Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning announced his re-election bid this morning.

He is seeking a third, four-year term in the office.

A lawyer and former state senator from the Gretna area, the Republican is the only announced candidate for the position so far.

Bruning, 40, said he has a $875,000 in contributions to run his re-election campaign.
