From nwi.com:
The attorney general has asked the state Supreme Court to review an appeals court ruling that Indiana’s voter identification requirement is unconstitutional.
Greg Zoeller last week formally requested “transfer” of the case to the state’s high court. The Supreme Court decides on its own which cases it will hear.
“As Indiana Attorney General, I will zealously defend this statute in court as required by my office,” Zoeller said in a written statement. “We stand up to defend laws passed by the people’s elected representatives in the legislature.”
The Indiana Court of Appeals struck down the voter ID law in September.
The appeals court said the law violates the Indiana Constitution by treating in-person and mail-in absentee voters differently. In-person voters must show a government-issued identification card to vote, while mail-in voters don’t face the same requirement.
