Georgia Republican House Speaker Glenn Richardson has taxes on the brain – specifically how to decrease the burden shouldered by Georgia families. Everything’s on the table – scrapping the current income tax system in favor of a flat tax, elimination of property tax in favor of a consumption tax, and the elimination of certain tax exemptions.
Richardson says in the AJC article:
“I'm convinced that the tax structure that has an income tax, sales tax and property tax is hurting our economy,” Richardson said in a wide-ranging interview Tuesday at the State Capitol.
“I'm going to try to do everything in my power to keep Georgia's economy moving forward positively, reducing the tax burden on citizens and encouraging economic developing so that our people have jobs,” he said.
…”Florida doesn't have an income tax. Tennessee doesn't have an income tax on its citizens,” Richardson said. “And it puts us at a little bit of a competitive disadvantage.”
It’s always good to have big thinkers on the R side of the aisle.
