OH: Missing Blackberry In Dann Investigation Found At College Party

Reported stolen, then found and taken from a party at Ohio State. Hmmm…What’s not missing though is disgraced and resigned Democrat A.G. Marc Dann’s mug from the Democrat Attorneys General Association website. He’s been selling plates how long now, and DAGA still has him listed as an AG? Even Chris Redfern’s Ohio Democrat Party scrubbed their page clean of any Dann references quicker than this. You know, this is kind of reminiscent of how the DAGA handled the whole “receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars from convicted felon Dickey Scruggs and others” thing some time back. Guess they’re taking the Jason Stanford approach – keep your head down, don’t answer any questions, and maybe it’ll just blow over…right.

Aker dialed the phone number on the device, which sends callers to the voicemail of Jen Urban, an attorney in the attorney general’s office. Urban reported her BlackBerry was stolen with her purse Thursday morning from her unlocked Short North apartment. The reported theft occurred less than a day after investigators seized computers from the attorney general’s office, and Dann submitted his resignation.

Urban’s BlackBerry is being sought by investigators because of a text message she sent to Dann indicating that she would not testify falsely under oath, fearing she would lose her law license.

Rudolph said she picked up the BlackBerry at a house party over the weekend near the Ohio State University campus. The device was lying on a kitchen counter, Rudolph told 10 Investigates.

Police were attempting to contact Perry and Rudolph late Tuesday night.

The Last Word…We Hope, on Marc Dann

The Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Michael Heaton captures the stunningly artless essence that was Ohio’s FORMER Democrat A.G. Marc Dann’s handling of the fallout from his absolutely shameful tenure as attorney general.  Though, we can’t lay all of the blame of this piece of “art” at Mr. Dann’s feet – only about 99% of it – the remaining 1% goes we think to Mr. Dann’s “Kevorkian of Spin” Jason Stanford.  This is the guy, you recall, who was hired to come and save the image and legacy of the A.G., now plate salesman, Marc “Dorfman” Dann.  We can’t wait to see how much he was paid to put the final nail in Mr. Dann’s political coffin.

Ohio AG’s Office Under State Police Lockdown (Video)

Protecting sensitive documents. Developing…

The blogs are afire…. Rumors are swirling that Dann was escorted out of the building. And now it looks like Dann is out to lunch. Literally. What is going on over there? We’ll keep you updated.

A press conference by Attorney General Marc Dann will not be held and the 17th floor of the Rhodes Tower where his office is located is apparently on lock-down to protect sensitive documents that may be subject to investigation.

The State Highway Patrol is in the attorney general’s offices, checking employee badges and monitoring to see if documents are being removed from the floor, sources told The Dispatch. Troopers were even searching the purses of employees leaving the offices.

Whether the patrol was working at with Inspector General Thomas P. Charles, who promised to launch an investigation today, could not immediately be confirmed.

Dann’s spokesman, Jason Stanford, said this morning Dann would have a press conference at noon. “ Attendance is mandatory,” Stanford said. As noon came and went, Stanford could not be reached for further comment.

UPDATE: The Mahoning Valley Tribune Chronicle is reporting potential Democrat replacements could be: L.G. Lee Fisher, State Treasurer Richard Cordray, and higher ed chancellor Eric Fingerhut.

The Free Times has a fun piece on Dann’s sultan of spin – looks like they dug a little deeper on Mr. Dann’s crisis manager only to find that…you should just read it. After you read the piece, you’ll probably conclude that Marc Dann’s “spingali” (it’s a made up word, relax) is just like the other, now former, members of his inner circle.
At this rate this is all going, Marc Dann is going to be the captain of the dream team.

OH: Marc Dann To Make Announcement – “Attendance is Mandatory”

So now comes the discipline. Think they’ll have Hawaiian Pizza?

From the Dispatch:

Attorney General Marc Dann is expected to make a statement on his political future around noon today.

Although it’s widely speculated that Dann will step down from the office he’s held since January 2007, his spokesman, Jason Stanford, wouldn’t preview his statement.

“Attendance is mandatory,” Stanford said.

However, some of those close to Dann speculated this morning that he would not be stepping down, and instead may launch a legal battle to halt an independent investigation of his office by Inspector General Thomas P. Charles. Dann had not made any announcements to his top advisers as of 10:30.

Some Dann advisers have raised the possibility of Dann raising a constitutional separate of powers challenge, since the inspector general normally does not have the authority to investigate the attorney general’s office.

Dann spent much of Tuesday attempting to broker a deal to leave office in exchange for calling off the inspector general’s investigation. However, his attempts failed; legislation expanding the inspector general’s authority passed both branches of the legislature and was signed by Gov. Ted Strickland last night.

OH AG Marc Dann: Must Read

If you’ve ignored every other thing we’ve posted on this matter, you must read this entire column by the Editor of the Columbus Post Dispatch. “Why SNS?” you ask. Here’s one snippet:

Dann even went so far as to threaten to fabricate allegations that newspaper editors who would report the story were also having illicit affairs.

This is not some bit of internet blog rubbish – this is from a respected member of the 4th estate community.

A phat hat tip goes to the folks over at Google, Buckeye State Blog, and the Daily Bellwether to name a few.

Dann brings in Lone Star State spin shooter Jason Stanford, and it’s game on baby!

Follow up: Dann’s Spin Doctor – will he be out?

Dann Physician of Spin Stanford

The Physician of Spin Himself

After seeing some interest, we’ve done some more digging on Ohio Democrat A.G. Marc Dann’s physician of spin. Stanford, who has calls himself a “dirt digger”, might be the type of dirt digger who may find it hard to return reporters phone calls if the hole he’s digging in gets too deep.

As you may recall, earlier we brought you up to speed on Mr. Dann’s new spin doc (you don’t think they’ll share an apartment do you?), and gave you a bit of background his qualifications. If you read the piece, you no doubt read about Mr. Stanford’s biggest crisis client to date – Mauricio Celis. Well, it turns out that a couple of weeks back Mr. Celis was indicted on charges of money laundering and impersonating a lawyer. But that’s not really what we want to let readers know about.

What we’d like give the citizens of Ohio fair warning on is this: If it gets to hot for either the Democrat A.G. Marc Dann or his physician of spin Jason Stanford, don’t expect reporters or bloggers to have their calls returned, or email messages replied to if in the coming days and weeks.

Spokesman Jason Stanford was out of the office and did not return a call to his cell phone.

That’s straight from the Corpus Christi Caller Times article about a client Mr. Stanford was working for down in Texas – we’re not spinning to win there.

Actually, that seems to fit what’s going on right now with Marc Dann’s state press office – duck and cover. Hmmm…maybe Jason Stanford is advising the taxpayer funded spokesperson for the Ohio A.G.s office as well.

OH AG: Marc Dann Hires Spin Doctor

Why you ask? Certainly not to get ready for 2010. More likely, to run the campaign for his life, legacy, and reputation. From the Plain Dealer Politics Blog:

Dann has hired a noted Texas Democratic opposition research firm whose motto is: “We Serve Republicans. Would You Like Them Skewered, Roasted, or Deep Fried?”

Jason Stanford is president of Stanford Campaigns and Stanford Research in Austin, Texas. He said he has been hired by Dann to do the attorney general’s talking when it comes political matters not related to his state job.

So just who is Jason Stanford good citizens? He’s primarily an opposition researcher/political consultant who seems willing to say or do anything to win – he’ll fit in great with the Ohio crowd.

Most recently Mr. Stanford has been mentioned in a small legal dust up as part of a city council race down in Austin, TX. Stanford is named in a story about a complaint that alleges he was involved in potentially illegal campaign activity. You can see the most recent article from the Austin American Statesman right here. It’s an interesting article, and really hits upon the critical issue of transparency in public life.
