MA: Candidates Gang Up on AG November 13, 2009

Attorney General Martha Coakley continued to bear the brunt of assaults in the race for U.S. Senate yesterday, with a trio of Democratic rivals accusing the front-runner of failing to understand the legislative process and letting Big Dig contractors off the hook.
“They actually got off pretty easy with a $500 million fine,” City Year co-founder Alan Khazei told the Herald, referring to the Big Dig firms. “I think the attorney general could have done a better job of enforcement.”
In January 2008, Coakley negotiated a $458.2 million settlement with Big Dig contractors, allowing the companies to avoid criminal charges in the fatal 2006 Central Artery ceiling collapse.
