When Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced she would not seek re-election, two prominent lower Fairfield County Republicans were automatically elevated to frontrunners for the party’s nomination.
Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele, of Stamford, during a brief impromptu news conference outside the governor’s office, said that while he had hoped his boss would run in 2010, he is ready for the top job. He also told reporters Rell had privately endorsed him, even though the governor a few minutes earlier declined to say whether she favored any particular candidate as a successor.
