FL: Poll Finds AG McCollum Strong in US Senate Race; GOP Gov. More Popular than Obama

From the Miami Herald:

The race to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez is just picking up steam but most Floridians don’t know much about the potential field. Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, who announced last week she will not seek the seat, would have had a small early lead with a 36 percent near-even match-up over the best-known GOP potential candidate, Attorney General Bill McCollum, the poll found.

McCollum’s closest rival on the GOP side is U.S. Rep. Connie Mack IV of Fort Myers, the son of the former U.S. senator with the same name. Mack fields a 21 percent ranking in a Republican trial heat, the poll found, while McCollum garners 22 percent. Both rate strongly among the party’s rank-and-file.

Voters in both parties are undecided about most of the potential candidates in the U.S. Senate field, however. The poll found that even if the ballot were to include Sink, 54 percent of registered Democrats said they do not have a candidate.

Ok, the Hedgehog Report out of northern Florida…also known as Maryland, distills this down pretty good – the general election ballot is worthless, but you do get a flavor at least for the GOP primary – which could include the current GOP AG Bill McCollum, and GOP House Speaker Marco Rubio.

Here’s the release with some actual numbers from the Quinnipiac  Poll.

Lastly, you can get a more Florida centric take on this race from a couple of days ago from Jim Johnson over at The State of Sunshine.
