From Post-Gazette.com:

State Rep. Paul Costa faces a court hearing next week after he was cited for possessing marijuana near Heinz Field Oct. 3 at a tailgating party before a Steelers game.

Mr. Costa, D-Wilkins, was charged with prohibited acts, a misdemeanor. His attorney, Phillip DiLucente, said that Mr. Costa was accused of passing a marijuana cigarette to another man in a parking lot near Clark Bar & Grill, located in the 500 block of Martindale Street.

He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Pittsburgh City Court on Nov. 24 at 8 a.m.

NY: Democrat AG Candidate and his “Corrupt Crew”

From the New York Post:

The AEG deal unraveled after the Lottery Division deemed the firm “unlicensable.” Ultimately, the agency picked Genting New York to run the video casino.

Gov. Paterson and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver also had a hand in the debacle, of course. But the bulk of the chicanery was in the Senate, according to Fisch.

So Senate Democrats, who run the joint, need to pay a price for that next month.

That goes for Schneiderman, too.

By contrast, his opponent, Staten Island DA Dan Donovan, is unencumbered by ties to Albany’s business-as-usual bunch.

The choice for New York’s chief law-enforcement officer couldn’t be more vital — or clear.

October Surprise in New York

From the New York Post:

The inspector general’s scathing report on the Aqueduct corruption scandal could hand control of the Senate back to the Republicans and take down Democratic Sen. Eric Schneiderman’s front-running campaign for attorney general, political insiders said yesterday.

Republicans could barely contain their glee as Inspector General Joseph Fisch, a lifelong Democrat appointed by Gov. Paterson, issued a shocking report on the unethical and possibly criminal conduct of some of the state’s most important Democratic officials — including the two top leaders of the Senate.

“This is a game changer for the entire election cycle,” crowed John McArdle, communications director for Senate Republican Minority Leader Dean Skelos.

“There is no question that this will be used in all our campaigns around the state. The commercials, in fact, are being prepared as we speak.”

NY: Senate Democrat Leader’s Deal “Stinks to High Heaven”

From NYDailyNews:

The state Senate’s Democratic majority is at a fateful crossroads. It can bless gross corruption or dump Brooklyn’s John Sampson as conference chief.

There’s no two ways about it after a scathing inspector general’s report laid bare the horrid inside story of bid-rigging and favoritism in the award of a since-canceled contract to operate a casino at Aqueduct Racetrack.

None of the Democrats has so much as whispered this thought – including senator and would-be attorney general Eric Schneiderman. They should be shouting it.

DAGA Backed Group Breaking Law in AZ AGs Race

A group funded by the Democrat Attorneys General Association is running misleading attack ads in Arizona.

From the Arizona Guardian:

A mysterious political group appears to be paying big money for a hard-hitting attack ad that started airing this week against Tom Horne, the GOP candidate for state attorney general.

A group calling itself the Committee For Justice and Fairness paid for a 30-second commercial accusing Horne of rehiring a teacher who was caught looking at child pornography on school time.

The commercial, which is running on local and cable television stations, also says Horne opposed tougher penalties for rape when he was a state lawmaker.

Little is known about the organization since it hasn’t registered with the Secretary of State’s Office as required by law. An Internet search turns up nothing.

Horne denied the accusations and claims the group is a front for the partisan Democratic Attorneys General Association.

WA: After losing primary, Democrat May Sue to Keep her State Senate Seat

From HeraldNet.com:

State Sen. Jean Berkey, D-Everett, inched closer Tuesday to a full-fledged legal fight to keep her seat and prevent anyone from sitting in it next year.

Berkey lost the August primary but contends her defeat resulted from illegal actions by a Seattle political consultant, and she wants those results tossed out.

Last month, she asked Attorney General Rob McKenna to investigate whether Moxie Media and a political action committee it created violated election laws by not disclosing who paid for last-minute mailers Berkey contends misled voters and cost her the election.

GOP AG Candidate Calls on Democrat to explain missed deadline that set sex predators free

From Findley for Iowa:

GOP Attorney General candidate Brenna Findley today challenged Attorney General Tom Miller to explain to explain how his office missed a simple deadline that allowed two sexual predators to walk free.

“The first responsibility of the state Attorney General is to protect the people of Iowa from violent criminals. Tom Miller has failed. His office missed a simple deadline and as a result two dangerous sexual predators are back out walking the streets and the only reason why is the failure of Tom Miller to keep his calendar straight.” Findley said.

Alabama Republican Leader: Democrats Breed Corruptive Atmosphere

From oanow.com:

Monday was a sad day in Alabama as teams of federal agents fanned out across the state to arrest four sitting lawmakers, several lobbyists and even a merit-system state employee on corruption charges related to gambling legislation.

The arrests and convictions of numerous public officials is happening much too frequently in our state. If the trend continues, Louisiana, with its long history and reputation for political graft and corruption, may soon look to us and say, “Thank goodness for Alabama!”

Republican officials were quick to praise news of the federal effort to clean up our state government, despite the fact that one of the arrested is a former GOP state senator (who was removed from the party for violating our by-laws) and another a recent party-switcher who decided not to seek re-election.

The Alabama Democratic leadership, in their response, ignored both the alleged corruption and the damning evidence in the indictments and chose, instead, to attack federal prosecutors for the timing and nature of the arrests.

Democrats’ desperation tactics on campaign finance

From the Washington Post:

In their latest attempt to distract voters from their job-killing policies, President Obama, his White House and senior Democrats in Congress have added to their long list of bogeymen the outside groups that seek to help elect Republicans in November. They threaten congressional investigations, leak private tax information and level baseless accusations of criminal activity against those who have been public in seeking to defeat Democratic candidates and their liberal agenda. Without a trace of irony, powerful Democratic officeholders lament that many who support these groups wish to remain anonymous.

None of these Democrats expressed concern about such outside spending in 2008, when more than $400 million was spent to help elect Barack Obama, much of it from undisclosed donors. The liberal groups and Democrats who supported the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, which established the legal framework for this new campaign spending, were much faster to adapt to its contours than the Republicans and conservative groups that largely opposed it, and liberal outside groups massively outspent Republicans in the past two election cycles.
