Jim Hood is having to respond to too many negative inquiries on how he’s chosen to run his office. When legislation is passed by a Democrat controlled body that’s intended to be a rebuke of a fellow Democrat who up until recently had been viewed as a front runner for higher office, you know the tipping point is just around the corner.
The bill is in response to Attorney General Jim Hood giving a state legal contract to his friend and large campaign contributor Joey Langston, whose firm collected $14 million in legal fees from the contract. Hood has given legal contracts to many of his campaign contributors, but he says there are many attorneys who have state contracts who have never given him money. The Senate has passed its own bill that would require more disclosure about the attorney general’s contracts. The House and Senate will exchange proposals for more work.
